Odd1Out asked:

"What's one thing or goal that your really wanted to experience, that required much planning, work, or saving money to get?

Why did you want it in the first place? Did you ever manage to get it in the end? How did you feel afterwards?"

Though every once in a while when everything's too stagnant I start to question my life again, haha.

Overall though. I have a good life.

Ah, fuck. I keep forgetting to answer this question. I can't put it into a comic but I've been to a couple concerts in my life, none of bands that I've been interested in. It's mostly Connor who wanted me to go with him, haha.

I don't like concerts. There's just too many people. One concert we stood next to a couple that just made out the entire time. Irritating.

Awwwww, I'm tearing up. This is such a sweet answer. I swear David you are the most down to earth person I have ever met. :*)

I can really relate to this comic a lot. I went through school thinking about what I could do that would make the most money, not what would make me most happy, because I didn't know. I didn't figure out what I wanted to do til midway through my second year of school, after I had already picked a major. I ended up switching, shoving three years' worth of courses into two years, and it was crazy hard but being happy is so worth it. Also worth being poor. xD

Video editing sounds really cool though, I do a tiny bit of that for my chosen field but never enough to really get in-depth. I think it's awesome that you found what makes you most happy and pursued it, this is a really inspiring comic. :D (long comment, sorry!)

This is fairly relatable to an extent. I went through my university as a psychology major. However, nearing the end of my studies I decided that I would prefer to go into the graphic art field. I graduated with a B.A. in psych but I intend to pursue my studies again while learning independently in the interim.

I suppose it may depend on where you live...but your major is hardly the end of it all. If you feel you chose the wrong path, as long as you put forth the effort and will you can find a way. :D

@lil_shiro: Really? Might be my southern roots, I have a little bit of country in me.

Haha, don't tear up because of me. I'm an incredibly non-impressive person.

@kribbit: Damn, three years, huh? Haha, glad you found it worth it.

Man, video editing is one of the least interesting things. Video art isn't a very popular form and I can feel my family constantly confused by my decision, haha.

We like to joke if you're good at it, no one will notice your efforts.

Hey, glad you're enjoying the comic.

@Frostwings: Yeah. Well, if I had the money I would've been more ok with switching majors, haha. My family didn't have any money to support my education so all the tuition money was future loans and I was given, about, $1000 for six months to live on.

And, of course, no matter what job I ended up with, it wasn't going to be enough for me to go to school for long. Haha.

I'm just glad our mom and dad are making enough for Connor to switch around but he seems to have found his thing really early, and Miriam seems to want to learn on her own rather than go to school again.

wow, I just love reading this comic. It's such an amazing read and I strangely feel serene after I read it. You are a wonderful story teller.

I agree with the other posts here. With every page you post, the more and more at ease I feel. You teach lessons without attempting to-thanks David (:

...You win so many awards. SO MANY.
*In endless awe*

Being in college myself, it's certainly no walk in the park when worrying about money. I'm frankly amazed I lasted this long considering one's tuition, and all that.
I only got an AA for the major I'm pursuing, and still struggling to get a BA in the college I'm transferring to... and sometimes I wonder if the current major (Social Work) I'm on is the right one. Or, some hasty compromise in order to get one's family to quit yapping.

Reading this page put me at ease though.
My situation is a bit different from yours, but I don't feel like I blew my biggest chance through college.
I feel like there are other ways for me to pursue the numerous things I'm interested in--even if not through the normal channels of college degrees.

You're seriously one cool dude, David. Your stories put me at ease and strike at a common core in many readers.
I hope to reach a state of mind like you are in someday, and I hopefully will if I keep thinking the way I do.
Miriam and Connor are seriously lucky to have you as a brother!

Hmm... you make me want to reconsider going back to school to write codes for web sites. I liked makes the pictures for the background and it was fun messing with the pickle calibration. Never thought I could like something like it, seemed mind numbing but it was great watching it come together

comment and a question :]

Minteh June 7th, 2012, 5:40 pm

I've never been a very goal-oriented person. And I've always been very indecisive, and people say I'm too nice or naive for my own good. I never attended school past high school because I didn't want to waste money. Then things kind've started just falling into my lap. I think I've been very fortunate, considering. I like to think that I work hard to keep up my quality of living, but every now and then i get that same feeling of stagnant living. Like I should make myself a goal and try everything I can to do it, then I feel like I'm too old now to do it (I'm only 24!).

Were there ever any times when you felt you needed to change something about yourself in order to go further in life? barring sexuality, of course, more like personality or habit-wise. I used to lie a lot because I had very few friends until high school, it felt like a long time to be lonely, and when I had people I cared about I wanted to do anything to keep them close. I used to tell stories to make myself seem more interesting. Eventually I realized how outdated this technique was, and actually found it was having the opposite effect. It took me years, and there are even some memories that I don't know if I made them up or if they really happened.

Thank you

Hi, I just wanted to say your comic is awesome! I love your stories :) I am 17 and I don't really know what I want to do with my life, this calmed me down. (I don't know why) But thank you. I still don't know what I want to do, but I think that is fine. Love your drawings, they are cute :p

@Arachibutyrophobia: Really? That's good to hear, glad you're enjoying the comic.

@IEatTacosForDinner: Haha, well, that's good. Good to know that just talking about myself manages to do some good.

@roxjey: Haha, alright. Thanks. You've been around since the start and commented on nearly page so thanks for that.

@odd1out: Haha, really? Huh. People seemed to have enjoyed this comic.

Man. I don't know anything about any majors, I just knew that the department I was in meant I got a BFA and I just needed to know that to tell people.

Yeah. I hear ya. I don't want to say your major is your end all but it sometimes feels that way, doesn't it? I hope you manage to find what you want.

Haha, yeah. College doesn't define your life, Tien showed me that. So that's good to hear.

Hahaha, jesus, you make me embarrassed. Huh. That sounds like a plausible explanation for all this, I certainly wasn't trying to but I'm glad people enjoy it nonetheless, haha.

@Mr.sasser: Ooo. Sorry. I don't think I feel comfortable with that, even if they let me. Partially because I don't feel comfortable asking them, haha.

Maybe one day. I'm sorry though, haha. You asked so nicely too.

@queensilian: Huh! Well, haha. I hope you don't regret your decision then. I joke, whatever you want. Good to know you have something you really love!

@Minteh: Yeah? Can't say I know you personally so I can't comment on that except, man. 24? That's not too old. My one teacher was 40 something before he started doing art and he was the best teacher of my life. Which is why he always yelled at us saying we were too young to say were bad at something, you still have a lot of time to figure out.

That's really all I can comment on. Other than that, there's really no perfect path to life, right? Seems like you got it pretty good but what happens after that... I can't tell you. Everyone has their own thing, right?

So for now let me just say I wish you luck in whatever you choose to do.

Hm. I've never known anybody to lie for those reasons before. But I liked reading it, you've given me a new perspective in things. So thanks for sharing.

Man. I hope you're not expecting an insightful response from me, I'm just a guy who edits video, haha.

Still, I'll answer it the best that i can.

@Koratah: Heh. Well, I can't say that most people in high school seem to have some huge passion, no offense. It's nice 'cause it's one of your last carefree days. Well, whatever path life takes you in, I hope you manage to find it.

Unless you don't need it then that's fine too. Haha.

@Liz: Hey, you're young! Don't worry about it. It feels like you're supposed to 'cause at that age they start haranguing you about college and you have to find one that has your major and it's just... a lot. Haha. There's no right time in life to know what you want, right?

Anyways, glad you calmed down! And glad you're enjoying the comic.

Haha, cute? Yeah. Everyone says that. Haha.
