Haha, I constantly feel inadequate around my family. And Annie there really likes One Dimension, and so her shirt.

I really hate explaining my job or my major to my family, I have such an ass hard time doing so. As you can see they're all rich and well educated (and the other side are red necks) so for them an education in the arts is classical paintings, photography, movies and so trying to explain video as a medium for art is... basically impossible, haha. Especially the fact that I'm not focused on filming so much as I am on the editing.

And it's also hard to explain why I like video editing, I just do. It's not easily recognizable, I understand, the pleasure one can get from it. After all, as I like to say, if I do my job well no one notices, haha.

Like how you can notice if the editing is bad if the cut is going on for too long, or if the images don't match up. Some of my favorite jokes are video editing jokes like Gob from Arrested Development trying to edit to look like he can do magic, haha. Or on "Dorm Life" where he says, "Eat your heart out Ken Burns" and it does the Ken Burns effect. Freeze frame, slow zoom, haha.

There's just something amazing how cutting a shot a couple frames earlier can give a different feel or even how they're arranged, and the use of real footage gives you the opportunity to mold reality.

Ah, I dunno. I suppose Miriam might be the closest to me in that regard, haha. I really enjoy post-production work.

I definitely understand what you're saying about editing and post-production work.
I'm actually looking to major in film.
I can edit for hours, plus it's exciting trying to point out the effects of the shots and the music and sound effects and why they use them to create the overall atmosphere.. Though.. I can't say people listen much to my enthusiasm. Ah well..

That's a big yard...

Now, despite the fact that I'll probably sound like an ignoramus, what exactly do you edit? I don't know... anything really about film making/editing/producing/everything that has to do with videos and such.

And who is Ken Burns?

I'm laughing at the 1D shirt.
nice touch.

I get that too. I try to explain the job and they all ask me "So you're Siri?" I just nod awkwardly and we move on. Oddly enough, when I over-simplify the description they seem to have a better understanding of what it is I do...

... is that a massive shed in their backyard? *hesitant, possible envy*

Your family sounds ambitious, David! >w< It sounds tough having to explain video editing to your scientificish family! HANG IN THERE! \>A</
Your comic reminds of my mom's annoying relatives that come over to mooch. I no longer mention college to them, because they always tease me about how it's a waste of money for somebody like me. Whatever the HELL that means! \>A<*/ GRRRR!!! THOSE FUCKING JERKS!!!
I can't even argue back because my Spanish sucks so hard! T_T Maybe I should just be like your brother Bernard, LOL! A punch in a face says a lot! RAWR!!! >A</

Man, for some reason I suddenly became really interested in how you draw beards.

@AllTimeConfused: Ah, film, eh? Sounds good.

Post production is fun, huh? Haha. Do you enjoy editing physical film or digital?

Haha, I'm really awful with sound, all my video pieces were either silent or used the sound recorded at the scene, haha.

@Elivier: Hey, you don't sound like an idiot. Everyone knows what they know, some learn certain information later than some but it doesn't make you dumb. Connor talks about it a lot, haha. Intelligence is based on your ability to rationalize and understand, not to memorize facts. Well, that's his definition, haha.

As for the videos I edit, I work for a post production company and we are usually hired by business to make videos for them whether for some business presentation or promotional video for youtube.

Ken Burns is a documentarian. The Ken Burns effect is known for taking a still image, then slow zooming into it. I think it's more known for being kinda cheesy nowadays though, haha.

@somesweaar: Haha. I know all the boy bands.

@hyeonmu: Damn, now I'm curious what you do, but I can relate to glossing over details, haha.

Ah, it's not a shed. It's a playhouse for the kids. I actually put a picture of their yard on the tumblr. Haha.

@mavi: Yeah, my family's pretty crazy! I'm always impressed by them, haha. Blown away, intimidated, etc.

Aw, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Hahahaha! If you want to punch someone in the face, I won't stop you. It has been a while since I've done that, I feel an urge every once in a while. If you do, be sure to tell me.

@cstar: Eh? Why? Also depends on the beard, right?
