I'm not a good family member. It was also Jenny's birthday recently, I am extremely awful at giving gifts. I really hate buying gifts for that reason alone, but I like buying things for people.

Hey, new reader here. Just caught up to the current strip. It was cool to see how your art changed over the past few years. Also I never knew I was lonely until I read your comic. Well, new life goal. Thanks for drawing!

@icarus: What? Why does it make you feel lonely?!

It's okay, I'm sure her parents didn't mind, and she probably didn't mind much either. It's hard to know these things until family members tell you.

@daviddoesntgetit: We were super poor as well. I always got clothes and bubble bath. I had to beg someone to finally buy me a darn gamecube way back when. It was 60 bucks at the pawn shop. I was so happy that I did. This was when I was like... 12 or 13 I guess. >.> lol

@daviddoesntgetit: It's nothing bad! It just made me realize how spending time with people I like can be nice and how little time I spend doing that haha. Things I didn't notice before. For all that you claimed to be anti-social in the beginning your comic doesn't really give that impression.

Aw man, it's tricky... But a present that makes someone happy is better than an unusable present! I mean if you're bad at picking gifts better get a toy a kid will like than clothes that won't fit... But yeah, presents are hard, even if you ask people are rarely open about what they want even if it's not pricey. Except for kids, kids have no shame there. :D

@Guest: I just looked up what the fuck that was and I guess it is. All compliments should be directed at Amy, sh e helped.

@Reealt: I'm sure they minded a little bit. I know she didn't mind.

Well, they did tell the family, except for me, apparently.

@yaoi4evandnevayuri: Oh man, that sucks. But holy shit, a gamecube. I bet it must've been awesome to finally get it. What was the first game you got for it?

@icarus: Ah, yeah, well. Spending time with people you like is pretty nice, haha. It helps that I live with some of them so I'm basically forced into a situation with them at all times. Not that I mind, I wonder if they do.

Hm. Well, asocial has plenty of definitions and as I've discussed with a reader before, people pick their labels, not the other way around. Just because I hang out with people I like or live with people I like doesn't mean I enjoy having to meet new people or force myself to network and socialize.

And I probably don't give that impression 'cause I force myself to socialize. I don't like it but I understand I'm a part of society and it's necessary if I want to get through life without causing trouble for others and myself.

@Oly-RRR: I mean, it was a good gift, thank god, but that wasn't the problem. Since they're poor, everyone else is sensitive to that fact so in order to make their parents look good to them, we buy them clothes so the toys the parents buy for them ends up being super fucking awesome as a result. Basically, we take the fall to make them look good and I think that's a pretty noble thing to do, thus making me feel like a bit of a fucking shithead.

Haha, it's true. Kids have no shame. I'm ok with them not quite understanding money just yet.

@daviddoesntgetit: Yeah, I got it and it IS a good thing to do! I mean I don't know how well you know them, I guess it depends on it... when I was a kid I would dread the idea of people other than my mother buying my clothes because she was the only one okay with me not wearing frilly girly pink sort of stuff and everyone else was like "why don't you wear a skirt, wouldn't it look nice??". Man, it would be easier if people could discuss gifts easier (my stepfather hates the idea of giving money as presents, I think money is better than a random gift the recipient has no use for, especially with current economics).

@daviddoesntgetit: I got a few rpg's for it since they were like 4 bucks each.
Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Final Fantasy, Baten Kaitos: Origins. Plus, I finally got Tales of Symphonia a little while after that. Good times.

@Oly-RRR: I've known them for a long while. I mean, I only see them a couple times a year but I'm not really included in the gossip loop in the family, haha. They told me that's what I get for not having a wife.

Hahaha! Miriam was the same way. Our other family members would buy her make up, which she has never worn in her entire life. She fucking hated it.

We had one real fucking shit of an aunt who, apparently. Our mom explained to me sometimes when you buy purses or something they come with extra gifts? Like a lipstick and some make up box? One year she just took all the free gifts she collected and distributed it to everyone.

The real kicker is she lives in a million dollar house by the sea but hey. It's her money, I guess. Haha.

Haha, that's what everyone tells me these days, the kids really don't mind just a fat stack of cash yet I continue to put myself through the horror of gift giving. Also, I always give the lowest amount and then everyone asks me if my job's going ok. Sigh.

@yaoi4evandnevayuri: Well, hell. That's a pretty good selection there. I like RPGs 'cause it's like being a long book, more bang for your buck. Unless it's shitty then... well.

Oly-RRR April 14th, 2015, 10:29 am

@daviddoesntgetit: That aunt does sound awful! I think sometimes people start saving money obsessively even when they don't HAVE to do it? I would understand it if she just gave the free stuff as freebies, like "I'm not really using this, want it?" but to make gifts out of it... :/

Ah, yeah, that's the problem with money gifts as well... And stepdad says he was tired of everyone at his work doing it so it was basically a bunch of people passing the same money to each other when going to each other's birthdays. THERE IS NO SOLUTION
